The mission of each Listen to Your Mother production is to take the audience on a well-crafted journey that celebrates and validates mothering through giving voice to motherhood – in all of its complexity, diversity, and humor.
Seeking a diverse collection of Madison writers (aspiring writers too!) to read their own words about motherhood at The Barrymore Theatre for the second annual LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER scheduled for 3:00 pm Mother’s Day, Sunday 5/8/11. All ages, sexes, and variety of writers invited to audition — NON-MOTHERS WELCOME. Bring your own original (as in written by you) humorous, poignant, and soulful words about the beauty, the beast, and the barely-rested that is MOTHERHOOD (or your mother/person who raised you)
Auditions are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY and scheduled for Saturday February 12 (10:30am-4:30pm) and Sunday February 13 (11:30 am-1:30pm) at Happy Bambino (Lake Edge Shopping Center, 4116 Monona Drive).
TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT send an email to Becky at BSewell23@gmail.com with the word “AUDITION” in the subject line. Please include your name and availability. Appointments will be first-come/first-serve until all slots are filled.
AUDITION PIECES SHOULD NOT EXCEED 5 MINUTES. Please time yourself reading aloud before auditioning to make sure your piece does not exceed 5 minutes. Shorter is fine. Shorter is great! Also please bring a copy of your piece that will not be returned. Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment to fill out an audition form. Previously published work accepted as long as author retains full rights or has express permission to read the work for the event.
Commitment includes two rehearsals TBD in March/April, and a pre-performance run-through at noon at the Barrymore.
LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER has community-based productions scheduled in Austin, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Madison, WI, Valparaiso, IN and Spokane, WA for Spring 2011.
We cannot wait to hear your words!
